Welcome to the MSU Writing Center!
The Montana State University Writing Center offers free writing consultations to all MSU undergraduate students. Writing Consultations can be scheduled for 30 minutes or one hour. We offer consultation for academic or personal writing for individuals or small group student writers and tutoring with ESL emphasis.
Writing consultants are undergradute, graduate and professional tutors from a range of academic disciplines. Our consultants are prepared to help you during any stage of the writing process from:
- Discovering topics
- Generating ideas
- Find supporting materials
- Developing details
- Organizing
- Editing
The writing center is a space where all students are valued as writers and critical thinkers. During writing consultations, students will be actively engaged in discussion and activity with their writing.
The scope of the MSU Writing Center
Our writing consultants are trained to read critically and to engage you in the process of developing and revising your writing. Our goals are to help you develop competence and confidence with your writing.
Though we are not a drop off editing service, we will certainly discuss sentence-level issue, proofreading and editing strategies.
Writing consultants cannot predict or explain grades received on writing assignments. We encourage you to speak directly with your instructor if you have questions about grades or assignment assessments.
